WNDR83300 wireless bridge/ WDS to DG834g

I have had a look over these forums and it seems there are no threads specific enough to answer my question so I have created this thread - I hope nobody minds.

My problem is that I want to wirelessly connect a DG834G router to a WNDR8300 router. The WNDR8300 supports some form of wireless connection to another modem/AP (WDS and/or bridging but I do not know the difference). My DG834G is v3 and so I have upgraded the firmware to V4.01.28. This gives "WDS mode" functionality under the advanced>advanced wireless settings menu link.

Thus I have the WNDR83300 connected a cable modem and "enable wireless repeating" enabled with the mac address of my DG834G entered. I have the "enable wireless briging and repeating" enabled on my DG834G pointing to the mac address of the WNDR8330. I have turned off the DHPC server functionality of the DG834G and assigned an ip address in the range of addresses the WNDR8300 gives to devices. Amazingly this worked! I can now get an internet connection from my DG834G which in turn gets its connection wirelessly from the WNDR83300.

There are two problems. Firstly the speed of the connection at the DG834G is half of what it is at the WNDR83300. After some digging around apparently for wireless repeating this is expected since the repeater both receives the signal and transmits it. Secondly I have subsequently reset both of my routers multiple times in an attempt to try different settings to prevent this halving of speed. Unfortunatley I have been unable to re-connect the two routers! I have seemingly tried everything in many different combinations but to no avail.

So is there a particular order in which the two routers must be configured in order to allow this bridging to occur? Also should the bandwidth at the DG834G be halved or is there another setting I need to tweak to prevent this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I've moved my WFS709TP from one subnet to another. I changed its IP address before putting it in the rack, and could connect to it ok.

Now that it's in the rack, I can't see it on either its new IP address or the old one.

I've got a serial cable, and tried doing a new setup through it (before the main boot) which didn't help.

I can get in through the serial port, but pings don't work. I can't do much else, as typing 'enable' asks me for a password, that I don't think I've ever set (and the usual defaults aren't accepted, nor is the web admin password).

Any suggestions how to get this working again would be appreciated...

Cheers,

Some legacy devices require guest account access via an SMB share.

Documentation suggests it is possible to share a folder with "everyone" however this is not the case - a username and password are required even for the FamilyLibrary folders. And for some strange reason only MyLibrary and MyComputer folders are visible to such devices though no content is visible.

Can / will a public folder with Guest Account support be provided?

I know Netgear claim they want a simple mom & dad device thats secure, however this device is effectively crippled if you have to use the internal UPNP support for some file types / devices - so is hardly universal in its application.

I'd prefer a response that doesnt request payment for premium services for such a feature - the direction headed with "payware" is concerning - given even basic advertised features are still missing from the product.

As it stands every single owner of this device can return for a full refund due to false advertising.

I just wanted to get this off my chest.
I have been a faithful Netgear customer since Netgear came out.
From ethernet switches to routers to gig switches. I recommend only Netgear and haven't had any problems.
I am however persuaded by either good service or bad service and now that a gig switch broke not 9 months after I get it and the only recourse is to pay to have it replaced I will not only replace everything I have that is Netgear but will also recommend that people do not purchase these products.
Very very poor warranty!
YOU LOST A LONG TIME CUSTOMER OVER THIS!
P.S. I will also be posting in online forums where your products are sold as this is something customers should know about prior to purchasing.
The router, however, does not have the proper time. In fact every time the router reboots the time is reset to the Unix Epoch (1 January 1970).

Hi,

Many of us in the various threads of this forum, we are suggesting improvements for our Stora.

I propose that in this thread collect these suggestions, that are summarized in one place.

It is important to bear in mind what kind of product is the Stora. A NAS targeting an audience are not computer literate or are looking for maximum simplicity. So we must take into account that there are improvements that we can not have in our Stora. However, there are many other improvements that would complicate the use of Stora but would do a much better product. Let us be considered when proposing improvements.

My proposal is that in many post I asked:

- Including JBOD or RAID 0.

What are yours?

Greetings.

Basically I just upgraded my Netgear router today and seen a Traffic Meter, which sounds awesome. The problem? It won't let me enable it.

The enable tickbox is greyed out, and it's not recording any data usage >.<

Does anyone know why this would be? I'm thinking it MAY be because this is a Virgin Media supplied router - however the update was directly from Netgear.

Thanks for any support!
