Default WAG302 vs WG302 firmware

I see that the v1 versions of the WAG302 and WG302 wireless access points use the same firmware upgrades through the end of August, 2006. I also see that last version of the WAG302v2 (5.1.19 - november 2006) is the same as that for the the WG302v2. However, the WG302v2 firmware upgrades then continue for another year (5.2.3 - november 2007). As these routers are supposedly identical, aside from the inclusion of an additional PCMCIA wireless "a" card in the WAG302, can I use the 5.2.3 firmware upgrade from the WG302v2 on my WAG302v2?

Thanks

Keith

I would try not to mixed up.. actually most firmware will refuse to upgrade by error out.

Thanks June, you are probably right but I wouldn't be surprised if Netgear "omitted" to include the WAG302 in the included list of hardware for these upgrades (like they "omitted" it from their list of eligible lifetime warranty products, even though it was still being sold long after they introduced the lifetime warranty)!

Anybody done this, or know if it's a go or no?

you can only try and see. usually if you have WAG302, V1, V2, those firmware will not upload so I would say WG320 will not upload.

you chances are to use open source figure out out

both are different source. not that they are maybe not much different but chipset have to be different.

theoretically you can use them... but the newer firmwares were not intended for wag302.. it can be unstable or the a-radio part doesnt work, who knows.

Well, curiosity got the better of me today and I opened up the WG302v2. The hardware is identical to the WAG302v2 (the circuit board even say WAG302), EXCEPT.... there is no mini PCI socket socket for the "a" card. So, no way to add the "a" card! Whether or not we can update the WAG302v2 firmwarw with the WG302v2 firmaware remains to be seen. As Beisser says, it could mess up the existing "a" functionality, so I guess I will leave it to someone more technically adept at console recoveries than myself to take that chance!
