Default What hard drive are you using in the Digital Entertainer Elite?

Since the list of qualified drives for the Digital Entertainer Elite is relatively small, we would like to find out what drives you are using that aren't on the list that are working for you.

So we'd love to hear which ones worked (or didn't work) for you that aren't on the HCL. ( http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6023 )

Make/Model: ?
Did it work for you: Yes/No

just for fun i installed a WD raptor 74 gb (WD740GD) in my eva and it worked.

i didnt use it for long though since it causes a lot of vibrations (this particular harddrive is pretty old, so the bearing arent the best anymore) and produces a lot of heat. i wouldnt recommend putting a raptor in the eva anyway because its likely to put extreme stress on the cooling of the eva (which will undoubtedly result in a short lifetime for the fan).

during testing i had a seagate 250gb ST3250410AS in the bay, which worked like a champ during the complete testing period.

Will the 9150 support Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB Hard Drive ST31500341AS - 7200RPM, 32MB Cache, SATA-3G? It would be nice to have more HD space...

I ran these drives in my two 9150s for a while and they worked fine. I finally moved them into my ReadyNAS.

Now I'm using Seagate 500gb drives which work great too.

Can anyone tell me, why the D Caviar Green WD10EACS is listed as incompatible on the Netgear site? I had it mounted several weeks and had absolutely no problems with it.

Cheers

Hi Umtauscher,

The Caviar Green drive appears to have a long spin up time. Intermittently EVA does not detect the drive on startup. Did you ever experience this?

Regards,
Jon

Hi Jon,

no, I didn't. I liked it in the eva esecially, because they are quiet and really really cool, so I could leave the fan switched off.
Anyway, perhaps the timeout for drive detection on the EVA should be stretched. I have 5 drives of that type mounted in my Linux server and never had any problems with them either.

Cheers
