Default FVG318 Locks up with Windows 7

I work for an ISP and we have about 30 fvg318 routers that we have give to customers to use. They have worked great for the past 2 years however we keep getting more and more calls that the customers internet has stopped working. Now our first question is to ask them if they added a windows 7 machine and the answer is always yes. We have tried a bunch of different firmware versions and different routers. The most the router will last is about a week then it will stop working. It seems to stop handing out ip addresses. If we put in static ip's on all of the computers the router seems to work just fine. And if we unplug the windows 7 machine the router works fine. This has been tried at multiple locations with multiple different computers with multiple different fvg318's with multiple different firmware versions on them. The result is always the same. Unplug the windows 7 machine and the router works.

Anyone have any ideas?

Disconnecting a PC will not magically make a router to start working again, unless that PC is flooding the router with packets.

I haven't heard of anything like this.

Have you tested and verified this issue inhouse?

Yes we have been able to duplicate this in house. I am sorry I wasn't clear enough but the router needs to be restarted after unplugging the windows 7 machine. You are correct when you say that it does not "magically make a router to start working again". With the windows 7 machine plugged in the router lasts at most a week before locking up. Without the windows 7 machine plugged in the router never locks up. We've had 20+ cases in the real world with different setups all where it quit working within a day to a week after they added a windows 7 machine. If we put in static addresses the units work fine and never lock up. If we rely on dhcp however it will lock up and the router needs to be restarted.

Submit a trouble ticket and get it escalated. I've seen issues with these routers, but not ones that were exclusive to Win7.

Main issues w/ the FVG318 in certain environments appear to be:

In order of frequency I have run across them:

1) router web interface becomes non-responsive (can't even wget the default page), though ICMP ping response still works, and router passes traffic normally.

This issue seems to happen more frequently in environments with PPTP passthrough or IPSEC site-to-site vpn

2) DNS proxy failures. I always configure these units to use external DNS servers now.

3) DHCP compatibility issues with certain devices, and DHCP server hangs.

4) Whole unit lockups, requiring reboot, or less frequently, reset / re-upload config.

Am desperately hoping for an updated firmware to address all of these issues on the FVG318 ; I sold a *bunch* of them.
