With the release of Mac OS 10.7 Lion, Apple has made some changes that have caused Time Machine to no longer works with the Stora. Netgear engineering has confirmed that they are currently working on a patch for this, which will be released soon.

I cannot even mount my ComputersBackup folder anymore. I expected this to be a smb of afp function.

Hi,
Just installed Osx Lion on my mac and my stora isn't working as a time machine like it used to under snow leopard, from what i read net gear needs to come up with some new software to cover it's mac users trying to maintain using the stora as a time machine. here's one of the articles i found regarding this subject: http://www.geek.com/articles/chips/o...ices-20110722/ I would greatly appreciate if any moderator or webmaster representing Netgear could help us with this subject. |

Like most NAS units, the NetGear NAS devices run on customised heavily customised Linux optimised for the hardware and NAS use.
Netatalk is the project used on Linux machines for providing AFP (Apple Filing Protocol) and Time Machine support (for obvious reasons Time Machine backups over a network uses the native Mac OS X protocol AFP). Time Machine backups have additional requirements compared with simply accessing AFP shares (the Terminal hack to re-enable DHCAST128 won't address Time Machine compatibility. Moreover if the lack of DHX2 authentication in some implementations of Netatalk was the only issue for Time Machine support, an update to Netatalk 2.2 would not be needed). Netatalk 2.2 includes fixes needed for Time Machine backups from a Mac running Mac OS X Lion, in addition to the AFP authentication requirements of Mac OS X Lion. The NetGear ReadyNAS devices (developed by a separate NetGear engineering team) already support Mac OS X Lion. Dogbert at the start of this thread indicated that NetGear engineering is working on a fix for the Stora. For now you should be patient and wait for a fix. |

Nice to hear, any chance they could address the broke AFP (Netatalk) FamilyLibrary symlink? For many Mac users this is just as important as TM functionality on the Stora, and has been neglected since the beginning of (Stora) time. It is cause of confusion with new Stora owners and has lead to numerous threads and frustration. Off topic, I realize, but seems this might be all intertwined and often one fix may help solve another.

My workaround to at least enable to working with iTunes and to have somewhat limited access to my drives on the Stora is the creation of a virtual machine running OS X 10.6 Snowleopard Server.
I used Parallels for this and it is important to configure the network access of the guest system in 'bridged mode'. Only thing which is still unavailable is Time Machine.... |

It's not just time Machine Related - I have 3 Storas in loft Space and since upgrading to osx 10.7 Lion they show in the finder fine but you can not access them
I never used them with Time machine as i like to drop and drag files for backup So It appers both FINDER ACCESS & TIME MACHINE are both not working at present I Really Hope Netgear can cure this ! Otherwise i just have 3 Black Doorstops - LOL |

The funny thing is my older ReadyNAS works fine, appears in finder and allows me to access it without any problems as it always has on older OS.... But the Stora is a different story, appears in finder but will NOT let you access it. Fingers crossed, lets hope they find a fix for this soon.
