Default WNA3100 on Windows XP always disconnects

Hello, I've had my wireless adapter WNA3100 for about 15 months...normally it hasn't been a problem, only the occasional disconnect where I'd have to restart, maybe once every 1-2 weeks which I don't really mind.

But recently it's been happening like every 2-3 hours.

Also, it has nothing to do with my connection at all, my iPod works fine using the wifi even after the adapter stops working.

I'm using Windows XP, the computer is somewhat old (03 or 04) but I still don't understand what the problem is...

Usually what happens is the internet will be working fine and it will show the two computer icons(one being the windows one that everyone has and one being the Netgear laptop icon with a green screen on the icon) and all of a sudden the Windows computer icon either goes away or it shows a red "X" through the computer, and the netgear laptop symbol turns red.

I've tried everything to get it to work WITHOUT restarting(it works when you restart) like unplugging it and replugging it in, trying other usb ports, logging off and logging back on, checked the services and nothing vital to the internet connection was stopped.

It's just been really annoying me.

Any advice?

Hi aglobke! I have had the same problem.. Windows XP on a Dell XPS that's about 3 years old, using Verizon's MiFi Jetpack (brand new!), and was getting disconnected regularly every hour and a half! VERY frustrating, and I really got all up in Verizon's face about their crappy Jetpack! Well, much to my surprise I just read here on the forums about a guy named King of Hearts that says it's a heat issue on the Netgear WNA3100 N-300 adapter! And as I think about it, the adapter was feeling a little warm when I'd unplug it after these episodes. Also, this morning for some reason I've been connected for over two hours now and the adapter is cool to the touch. Why it was getting hot I don't know, but that's what I'm going to try to find out now. Check your adapter for a heat issue and see if that doesn't figure in somehow.

Good luck!

I'm going to hate apologizing to Verizon!!!

Kat

PS- I'll go find the forum King of Hearts posted in and come back here with a link to it shortly.
