two band will have different LED.
test with any other 2.4Ghz wifi devices if you are only testing with single device. if you still have an issues make sure there is channel interference on 2.4Ghz if you have good amount of wireless around you.

Thx for response. All devices see only 5G. Very little wireless traffic in my neighborhood, none using adjacent channels. Checking for traffic on my 2.4 there is zero. Do I have a defective radio?

If the Genie firmware shows that the 2.4 GHz band is "enabled" (Advanced -> Advanced Setup -> Wireless Settings) then the problem is either: 1) The router is malfunctioning. OPen a support ticket at my.netgear.com or call tech support. 2) The firmware (Genie) is malfunctioning. Try reinstalling with latest firmware from website and do a hard reset. See the User Manual on Netgear's website for the 4500. 3) The client's NIC card adapter is malfunctioning. 4) The software setup for the NIC card;'s drivers and/or the Operating System's networking is improperly setup. For instance, you could have set up the networking to preferentially choose the 5 GHz band when connecting to the router's wireless signal. Maybe your client NIC adapter card cannot handle the Mode you selected in Genie - try a lower Mode. Maybe you have set Security too high for the capabilities of the NIC Card. Also, make sure you use different SSID's for each band to help in diagnosing your issue. 5) Interference from neighbor's wireless signals operating on the same channel as you OR from electrical devices in and/or around your home are causing poor 2.4 GHz performance and your NIC card selects 5 GHz band to operate on. Try using the 2.4 GHz band with your client withing a couple feet of the router. Also, try different Modes and different Channels. You can use a wireless sniffer like inSSIDer to see broadcast wireless routers in your area (including your own - yes you should be able to see both bands broadcasting!) as well as a rough signal intensity RSSI which can help guide you to what channel may be best as well as location to place the router and client in for optimal signal. There are other reasons but this gives you something to start with. Tell us more about what the client is, what the client's NIC adapter card is, how you set up the 2.4 GHz band in Genie, and how are the router and client located physically from one another in your testing/use. Also, have you had success with a different router on 2.4 GHz band with that client? June's suggestion of trying a different client is a great idea. |

thanks for the through response. I have downloaded new firmware and a hard reset. problem not solved. I have numerous wireless devices all detect the 5G signal, none detect the 2.4g signal. Old 2.4G router works fine.
assuming I have a hardware problem. |

I don't have a single device I'm aware of that uses the 5GHz. I'm considering turning this radio Off to save some power and heat.

make sure that 2.4 is not hidden, also see to that both ssid have different names, if nothing works, enable guest ssid for 2.4 and see
