My setup:
Router WNDR4500 with latest firmware (1.0.1.6_1.0.24) Computer: Home built computer running Debian linux, connected to one of the LAN ports on the router. When I reserve an IP address for this computer then after a while (~12-16 hours, haven't timed it exactly) the connection will be lost and I'm forced to go to the computer and tell it to reestablish the LAN connection. Then it works for another 12-16 hours before losing connection again. I was hoping that the line item mentioning fixed IPs in the latest firmware notes was the reasoning for this problem but unfortunately the problem still persists. When I don't reserve an IP address for this computer then everything works fine. However since this computer is my webserver I need to be able to forward some ports to it which requires it to keep the same IP. The computer also had no trouble with a reserved IP on the previous router I used (an old D-Link), so I don't think the computer is to blame here... I have tried configuring it to use a manual IP instead of DHCP but the problem does not go away. Any help in diagnosing this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Setup static ip on pc on OUTSIDE DHCP range instead if you are using address reservation

First - a reserved an ip and a static ip are not the same.
Second - the computer looses it's connection to what? The network? The internet? Have you tried diagnosing the problem - using ping to see if the computer can contact the other end of the connection and tracert to see where the connection is being dropped.
