Default Cannot connect N600 via cable

I have a new N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit ADSL2+ Modem Router DGND3700 to replace a very old and very tired Netgear router. Signal strength at the top of the house is very weak on my Toshiba Satellite R630 (Windows 7), so I connect via cable. With the old router, my laptop would show it was receiving a stgrong signal via cable, but now I cannot see anything to suggest I'm getting a strong signal via cable. What do I need to do? What's gone wrong? Help, please.

there is not really such term "receiving a strong signal"

do ipconfig and what is the results of "JUST" ethernet adapter (no need other useless information when you do ipconfig )
