I have a WGR614 v4 router and have used it for a long time by having a wired connection to my desktop and using it wirelessly with my Dell Inspiron 1521 - no problems at all. Now, I am in a new house and have to use a wireless adapter with the desktop and that's where it got weird.
My wireless adapter is a Linksys WUSB54GC and once set up, it works perfectly with my wireless network when it is unsecured. Once I enable security, it will not connect, no matter what I do. I've tried using passcodes and WEP keys, I've tried doing controlled access and not having it. Linksys technical support wasn't able to help me so hopefully somebody here can. Yes, I realize I should have probably just bought a Netgear wireless adapter

Have you downloaded the latest firmware for the router ? If the router supports WPA obviously try that.
It's quite an old model now and if the wireless adapter is a brand new model, even after router firmware upgrade there may be chipset issues which affect encryption compatibility. You may have to resort to restricting access by MAC ID by going to Wireless Access List section of the router interface. It's not very secure but worth doing while you figure out an answer. |

don't use WEP hackable encryption. access list is useless in term of using with WEP. just hackable.
use WPA, or WPA2 with no access list. do not use auto108. B & G mode there is always compatible issue between the hardware..
