Default WGX102 wrong IP address

I just bought a WGX102, to be used as a wireless replacement for one of the two XE102 which I had. The 3 leds on the XE102 are all lit, but on the WGX102 the central one (the network connection) switches off after a few seconds and stays off.
The ethernet cable which connects to the XE102 (from an adsl router) works fine, and for the sake of testing the XE and WGX are connected to the same power extension. I have tried to hard reset the WGX102 and to restart the whole chain in the correct sequence as specified in the manual, with no success.
The computer TCP/IP settings are on DHCP but the IP address it is given is 169.254.224.82, no way to have it in the correct range, even setting it manually does not work. Might it be a problem of a defective XE102 unit? Before one of the two unit died, they were working fine together. Thanks for your help.

power extension is not power strip correct? if it is do not use that... straight to wall outlet

169.x.x.x is sign of self assign IP which indicates on DHCP is found so connection is not work between powerline products.

Unhappy Re: WGX102 wrong IP address

Thanks. Indeed at the beginning I had tried connecting to different power plugs in the same room, and already I got this self-assigned IP address. It looks as if the two units could not communicate .

What puzzles me even more is that when I tried to access the Netgear wireless network with a macbook and fixed IP address the internet connection worked, while from the PC (set to fixed address or DHCP) it never did. Maybe on the PC there is some other hidden setting I should look at, or a general reset of network connections settings I could do? It is true that this laptop already had at times connection problems with other wifi routers.

It is a pity that the setup panel of the WGX102 does not include testing of the connection.

macbook and PC issue are probably not directly connected on issue you with WGX102 rather router itself for DNA related or something.

I would say powerline products a <--->B point is not communicating

for PC directly connected , try manual DNS on pc side with 4.2.2.1/4.2.2.2

you should refer to the manual on any LED indication should be.

http://kbserver.netgear.com/downloads_support.asp

if the LED that used be lid but not anymore may could be related to defective units.

I need the XE102 with the WGX102 for it to work... I can't just have the WGX102 alone with a regular wireless router to it?...
mine WGX102 gets really hot when I plug it in aswell.. is that normal?

I can speak for since I don't use it. Very possible that unit may worn out if you noticed that much difference in heat (before and now)
