Default WN311B software

As referred to in another post, my PC continually locks up each morning after booting up - 2 or 3 restarts normally sorts it.

I am trying to update the WN311B software, and follow the instructions on the support page. However, no matter how i try, the original software, 4.19.3.8, will not uninstall. I have tried thru start/progs, thru control panel, and even in safe mode, having first removed the card.

Netgear support suggested I had to contact my PC vendor (Dell Optiplex G620), but Im not sure how they can help to uninstall netgear software.

All sensible suggestions will be gratefully received.

Is there no advice on how I can uninstall the existing software, allowing me to upgrade (other than shown on the support page, which does not remove it ?)

you can try this.. I have kept doc from old thread..

A copy of Revo uninstaller from download.com

Install the Neargear utility and driver that you are happy with, I

1.- Install Revo software
2.- run Revo and uninstall utility - use complete uninstall (bottom options) - This will leave the drivers in place, will only uninstall the utility.
3.- reboot your computer.
4.- Go to Control Panel -> Adminstrative Tools -> Services -> and find the service "Wireless zero configuration" down the bottom of the list. Right click on it and -> properties -> make it start "Automaticaly" -> Start it (before you leave the window)
5.- Go to network connections and right click on "Wireless Connection....."
6.- Click on properties
7.- Click on Wireless Network
8.- Select your SSID from inside the box and click on properties.
Add you password and encryption type.
OK the changes.
You are done.

Hi June,

many thanks for the advice, wihch I will try :

Before I do, please can you clarify :

You start by asking me to install the utility and driver I am happy with. I am trying to install version 6.1, but this will not install until i have removed the current version, 4.19, which I cannot do. So, how do I start ?

Secondly, do I need to physically remove the PCI adapter at any point ?

Many thanks in anticipation

Hi June,

The first couple of times I tried Revo, it did not work. Then I realised i needed to press delete to remove the registry settings and it worked.

I have installed version 6.1, although this does not show up on the Smartwizard, it shows 4.22.15.8, dated 17th September 2008 as the smart wireless utility.

Many thanks for yuor prompt respnoses, and i will let you know if i have any more boot up problems over the next few days

Hi again,

Im still locking up on boot up, and several times during the day. When it locks up during the day, the event manager says "the computer was not able to renew its address from the network for the network card, the operation was cancelled by the user, your computer will try to continue to obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server."

At this stage I have to turn off the power and reboot - what a real pain, losing work along the way
