Default Changed network name and lost connectivity

I changed the name of the network ID on the router and immediately lost internet connectivity thru the router. The connection status on the PC shows "unidentified network" with limited or no connectivity. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

that is expected ... if you change the SSID name you dissociate from prior network

delete any profile belong to old SSID name and make new wireless connection

My main PC is connected to the router directly through the LAN high speed (wired) connection. How do I delete the association in that case? Thanks

Network ID - SSID?.

if you are referring to the wireless SSID then you need to delete the profile on the pc which are using for wireless

I guess I didn't explain properly. Sorry. My cable modem is connected through the router as is normal. When I changed the wireless SSID, I lost the internet connection to the main PC which is a wired connection. I get that "unidentified Network" message. The pc's I'm running wirelessly can see the new SSID network but can't connect to it. Connection fails when I try to make it. I by-passed the router and connected the cable modem directly to this PC so I could get to this forum. As you can tell, I'm no computer expert.

you need to delete the profile on the pc which are using for wireless

you will need to look the wireless properties/ wireless utility and delete old SSID you had.

also you MUST used wired the router when you change the ANY wireless settings. use PC wired the router and examine the setting and do above as well.

I used a wireless pc when I logged into router and changed the SSID name. Is that why I lost connectivity to the internet and router on the wired PC when I did that?

you never ever change wireless setting via wireless.

I don't see how you loose the connection for PC that is wired the router. although anything can happen ....

use pc wired the router and REDO .RECHECK ALL

Mr. Mizoguchi –

I want to rename my SSID. Per Thread#2, you advised to delete the old and build a new named profile.
So, I believe that need to:
1. connect a PC to the router via e-net cable.
2. build a new profile with new SSID
3. have my wireless PCI card find and connect to the new named SSID profile
4. when this all works, then delete the old SSID profile

NONE of this work will affect the PC connected via e-net cable, right?

FYI - I have an old reliable system of a
Router: WGR614NA
PCI card: WG311TNA in desk unit
HP laptop has its own e-net card.

Router output is one e-net cable and one wireless WEP signal.

Thanks so much for your guidance.

Clayton
