Default 5.1 channel audio

While playing around with various video formats, I've noted that neither vob's or mpgs that are 5.1 play as such. They get down-mixed to 2 channel. I'm using spdif outputs with spdif enabled. Am I doing something wrong?

What firmware release are you running? There is a known issue with 1.1.120 and AC3 5.1 audio that had been fixed in the recent beta firmware releases. Should not be an issue with firmware 1.1.136 or 1.1.140.

kemac, thanks for noticing this issue. Just saw your post on the bugs thread.

I spent half a day yesterday trying to tests some converted stuff in mp4 with aac and in none of them I could get the audio to come up. I thought I'm going crazy and never thought about turning the SPDIF off.

I've now noticed I have a further problem in that my 2 channel audio only plays for a short while and then either dies completely or breaks up badly.
I wonder if it has anything to do with my connection method? I have the TV connected via HDMI (with the TV speakers switched off) and the sound connected to my amp via spdif.

I have my unit set up the same way, and I haven't noticed any drops once I switched back to SPDIF off. Seems the latest fix for the passthru isn't stable yet.
