Time Machine working now??

I am thinking of getting a Stora for my parents (age 65) who know very little about computers. They want something that can play their home movies to their TV, play their music to individual computers, and backup their computers. My dad has a Windows Vista machine and my mom has a MacBook Pro.

I haven't been particularly interested in the Mac threads on here as up to now they didn't really apply to me. I did read a few of them and manly gathered that Time Machine with Stora was flaky at best, but there did seem to be some potential work arounds.

However with a forum search, I really don't find a conclusive answer. I have very little experience with OS X and am concerned about my ability to tweak it to make Time Machine work with Stora.

Primarily I am curious if the recent 2.5 firmware update has done anything to help with Time Machine?
