Default Qn re:Surge Protectors & NETGEAR XAVB5001

Do I need to plug the XAVB5001 into a surge protector? Does anyone have experience with failures of device after thunderstorms, etc? Thank you. - Ira

Extensive. We even replaced every damaged semiconductor in some electronics to never have that electronics fail again.

If you think any 2 cm part inside a magic box will stop a destructive surge, then go make that deal to buy the Brooklyn Bridge. Anything that stops or absorbs surges is also best called a scam.

Protection is always about no transient energy entering the building. For over 100 years, that is the only solution done in any high reliability facility. Ie. munitions dumps. Can you name anywhere else that might need better protection? Telephone Central Office (CO)? Same solution. And no plug-in protectors.

Either every wire inside every incoming cable is earthed before it enters the building. Or the entire building has no effective protection. How many wires in the AC power cable. Three? Then each of three wire must connect short (ie 'less than 10 feet') to earth. One is connected directly. The other two via one 'whole house' protector. Even power strip protectors need to be protected by this only and 100 year old proven solution.

So, which wires do you need to upgrade / fix / protect? Then appropriate solutions can be recommended.
