Default Red x

Forum and Modem newbie
Is there a Netgear N300 forum (DGN2200)? sorry if this is wrong place.

Briefly had a N150 (DGN1000) and all household computers could connect wirelessly. But the router did not function well, so I exchanged it for the N300.

Set up the modem and wireless using a MacOSX Snow Leopard.
Correct info from Qwest/CenturyLink ISP
Both Mac laptops in the house connect to internet very well.

Housemate's Asus laptop with Win7 can connect via ethernet cable, but not via wireless. It did connect to the N150 with mostly same modem/router settings. N300 has the speed choices. Currently set for 300.
Asus displays the network name in its list of available wireless networks, but there is a red x between the network name and the internet bars. In the connection setup panel (sorry, I'm a Mac guy, the Asus and Windows are not familiar to me so I don't know what these windows are called) are fields for security type and phrase. Modem is set for WPA2-PSK (AES) and a password. We enter WPA2 Personal and the SSID password. ASUS Screen returns to red x between the SSID name and the connect icon.

Any suggestions? Tried a ASUS reboot.

Thanks

-B

Try updating the driver for the wireless card. Check for newer driver from Microsoft, or Asus, or NIC manufacturer. Check if problem solved after installing newer driver and rebooting.

usually X shows in network map means the did not detect the internet but likely hood that IP is still released the PC

try using DNS 4.2.2.1/4.2.2.2 on pc

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/19249...-or-windows-7/

follow above and ONLY just DNS and try it.
