This is the text of an email that I received from Netgear Support on March 14 with regard to the Firmware update:
This is update that we got from the level 3 expert assigned to the issue. Engineering is still fighting for the time and resources to finish the final firmware, so it’s being delayed. At this point I don’t have any updated ETA when it will be done, or what will be addressed in the final firmware (except the YouTube fix, which they have committed to being in the FW). So at this point we’ll have to wait to see what ends up being addressed in the final firmware. (If I was to guess I would say the gapless playback issue won’t be in the list, since that is a very low priority issue and with constrained resources they won’t be addressing every issue. But this is only a guess on my part, and we’ll have to wait and see.) I will keep on monitoring this and update you once the firmware is released. So it looks like we may be in for a long wait with not much to show for the final Firmware. Z |

What gapless playback issue? My primary reason for buying the 550 was it was the only Media box that played stereo and multi-channel FLAC gaplessly and bit-perectly, as well as playing Blu-ray ISOs with full menu navigation.

Not sure, I think this was a boilerplate email sent to many customers with open cases. My case had to do with DLNA issues.

Well, there is a solution : open source the Netgear part of the software, let us fork it on github, and things will go a lot faster... A firmware update (only fixing things, we are not even talking about new features) every 6-9 months is not enough. If they don't have enough developers (sounds like "don't want to support this machine anymore"), there are many here willing to give some time.
Youtube will work? Great. For how long? It's a great machine, too bad little thing that could easily be fixed (RadioTime/TuneIn sign-in is broken too) need to wait so long. |

We're reaching soon the end of March......No timeline....No announcments...No customer relationship management at all......
This customer's respectfulness is close to pathetic....... Why?

Deja vu all over again. The last we heard the engineering dept is "fighting for the resources" to finish the final revision. I believe we heard the same thing about their media player and engineering lost. To be honest I bought the box because it worked for what I wanted it to do at the time. I would never buy a netgear product that doesn't do everything I want out of the box. They just don't meet their committments.
