Hi,
I have a netgear WNDR4500 updated with the lastest firmware 1.0.1.6. The router sends every 3 seconds these UDP packets on my LAN : # tcpdump -i eth0 -n 10:22:30.204378 IP 192.168.1.1.32771 > 255.255.255.255.7423: UDP, length 173 10:22:33.264477 IP 192.168.1.1.32771 > 255.255.255.255.7423: UDP, length 173 10:22:36.324536 IP 192.168.1.1.32771 > 255.255.255.255.7423: UDP, length 173 10:22:39.384636 IP 192.168.1.1.32771 > 255.255.255.255.7423: UDP, length 173 10:22:42.444735 IP 192.168.1.1.32771 > 255.255.255.255.7423: UDP, length 173 10:22:45.504755 IP 192.168.1.1.32771 > 255.255.255.255.7423: UDP, length 173 10:22:48.564854 IP 192.168.1.1.32771 > 255.255.255.255.7423: UDP, length 173 10:22:51.624913 IP 192.168.1.1.32771 > 255.255.255.255.7423: UDP, length 173 .... (and so on) 1) What is it ? 2) Is there a way to disable it ? (I have already disabled the "Media Server" and "UPnP" but the router is still sending these packets) 3) Do you have the same issue ? Thanks |

Hi,
about port 7423 I have found this post : http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=69915 and this file full of messages : ftp://downloads.netgear.com/dgn3500/ww/langs/ENU.txt As far as I understand, it's something related to Usb Control Center. Please could someone check his pc firewall and tell me if he receives the same udp packet every 3 seconds ? thanks |

I have the same question as the original poster... I get the same broadcasts from the router to the lan and would like to disable them. I have disabled Readyshare, have the Media Server turned off, and have no USB devices connected to the router. I also have uPnP turned off. If there is a way to prevent the broadcasts some clarification on how to do so would be much appreciated.
Thank you.. Bill Quote:

I just discovered this while looking at my firewall logs on my work laptop. Same exact problem. The firewall logs show block of UDP port 7423 originating from the router on port 32771 every 3 or 4 seconds. What is doing this and why? Fwiw, I am running the latest firmware update. At the very least, there should be a way to disable this.

Yes, this needs fixing in the next Firmware. WNDR4500 is flooding the network with endless packets when there is no need to.
If you have mobile phone attached on your WNDR4500 WIFI it will eat your battery much quicker than other routers would, because your mobile is taking notice of each and every one of those packets, preventing it from going to deep sleep. This looks to me like a NETGEAR firmware developer has forgotten to add few lines of code: if Readyshare=disabled then sendPacketsOn7423=false; NETGEAR Please fix this in the next firmware or provide an option to disable it. |

This is a user-to-user forum only. You should open a case with Netgear to report it.
