Is this common with this router? I bought this router on good reviews. Does anyone really make a good SOHO router??
![]() Perhaps I should be looking into returning it. Turning off the wifi isn't an option. |

I'm the OP
I upgraded to the latest firmware V 1.0.0.32 yesterday morning. It's been over 24 hours now without any issues, on disconnects on the 2.4GHz radio with my speed mode set to 300mbs. Prior to this I was lucky if the connection stayed up 2 hours. So it would appear that Netgear fixed the issue with wireless devices on the 2.4GHz radio disconnecting with this latest firmware upgrade. So I would like to thank the Netgear engineers for staying with this issue to provide a fix. Thanks Steve |

Hello All, Great to have found this forum! I just bought my 3800 3 days ago and was wondering if I bought a lemon, as my devices kept dropping off.
I also upgraded to the latest available firmware (1.0.0.32) just a couple of minutes ago so let's see if it makes a difference. The Netgear website for the firmware does refer to (amongst other things) having fixed the dropping issue but they say "Fixed - For 2.4G wireless connection, wireless client might be disconnected easily in heavy/noisy traffic environment." Well I can't say my home/neighbourhood is a "heavy/noisy" traffic area but I haven't really checked. ![]() Compared to my previous 54Mb router the speed increase is VERY refreshing! |

Well, Iīm not a happy camper! I upgraded to V1.0.0.32 and my wireless connections still drop, on both the 2.4 and 5G bands. The only way to restore the wireless is to bounce the router - not a good scenario at all!!
I noticed there is (yet another) firmware update V1.0.0.34 out now but thereīs nothing in the notes saying anything new for this issue. Do I take this router back for a refund? My DI524 was waay slower but VERY stable and reliable - two VERY important functional requirements for my internet connection! |

Same problem for me as TazNet. Each morning, I must power the netgear off and on before connecting, otherwise no wireless connections possible.
I have upgraded firmware to 1.0.0.32. Next I'll try 1.0.0.34, but there's no indication in the release notes that any connection issues are addressed. Interesting that many posts in this forum say that 1.0.0.32 fixed their connection drop out issues. Yet for a small number of us it hasn't. What could be the possible difference? The only thing I am doing which I doubt most people do is that I use the scheduler to disable wireless each night, and then re-enable wireless in the morning. The proper LEDs light up to indicate wireless is back on but no wireless connections are actually possible until I power it off and on. I bought this router because I could easily turn off wireless overnight while keeping the wired ethernet running. I don't want to return it, but this problem makes the netgear next to useless. |

My 3800 was dropping wireless until 1.0.0.32 and now .34. For 2 weeks everything was fine, but this past week the 3800 keeps losing touch with the DSL modem. I connect to the router, but can't get out to the internet. A re-boot of the router fixes it for a day or two before it breaks again.

Hi SkiSmuggs,
It is not much help but I have been experiencing the lost internet connection since I bought the router in December. I have had it in both 1.0.0.24 and now in 1.0.0.34 but 1.0.0.32 was installed for too short a time to test it. My prior router, a DG834GT, had a rock solid internet connection. Quote:

Well I havenīt updated to 1.0.0.34 yet but the previous couple of posts arenīt encouraging. Very disappointing that over the past several firmware updates, Netgear hasnīt addressed this - nor even mentioned it in the release notes.
My first exposure to Netgear is far short of stellar... I think Iīm going to start shopping for a D-Link substitute, as my experience with D-Link has been rock solid.... very sad indeed! I actually got the 3800 for two reasons: it had more features packed into it than the 3700 as well as the 4000 (and now the 4500) btu also because it can have Tomato &/or DD-WRT installed on it. Does anyone know if installing Tomato or DD-WRT helps in this area? |
