This router was working wonders until I ran the latest firmware update.
Now I can't even see/access my external hard-drive that's attached to the router. The HDD powers up, and works (I have plugged it to my laptop and was able to access the files directly). When plugged to the router, the HDD powers up normally but I can't see anything in the "Netgear Router Genie." Help!? |

I have exactly the same problem!
Maybe a software rollback? |

hard reset the router after flashing firmware.
if issues the same. flash older firmware (support.netgear.com) by downloading prior firmware and hard reset after flashing again .

Also make sure that under the Advanced Tab -> Advanced Setup -> USB Settings -> "Enable any USB Device connected to the USB port"... is set to: YES

Hey Guys I have the same issue! My USB EXT HDD that has been working finer with Readyshare cannot be seen by the router since updating firmware to
V1.0.1.20_1.0.40. The HDD is not faulty nor the USB 3.0 cables - the HDD works perfectly when connected directly to my Mac (OS 10.8.2) or PC (Win 7Home Premium). ( Has anyone tried the suggested fix?

I have to do the same thing every time when updating the WNDR4700, otherwise USB ports do not receive power until you do. Just power the router down for a minute, then power back up, that normally fixes it right away for me.

I think I have the same problem
I lost power to the USB Storage Drive at about the same time as I performed the latest firmware upgrade. So I don't know which has caused my issue Things I noticed - \\readyshare returns the message "the network path not found" - the USB drive works when plugged directly into a PC - have attached a different USB drive to the same cable and everything works perfectly eg \\readyshare finds the USB drive - i noticed that when I attached the 2nd USB drive - the green USB light on the router lights up - when I attach my 1st USB Storage drive the green USB light on the router does NOT light up Regards Alan |

I can't believe my luck ater 2 days of pain - I can now see the USB Storage.
- held in the hard reset for 30 seconds (read this on another thread) - then powered down for 10 seconds - waited for it to connect to the wired PC - tested \\readyshare - still no connection - disconnected the usb cable from the USB storage - reconnected the usb cable - the green USB led on the router started flashing quickly - tried \\readyshare on the PC - USB Storage now visible Hope that helps Alan |

Well I've tried everything mentioned in this post and nothing except returning to rev 1.0.0.58 works. I think Netgear has a problem they are not willing to admit. I have posted a ticket on the support side.

I discussed this USB issue with Netgear and recommended retuning the unit.
