If buying today I would likely buy the Asus RT-N66U also. However, I've been reading user comments regarding heat issues with it. I'm going to wait and see how it's faring in a few months. One thing for sure, I won't be picking up a V3 WNDR3700.
Curious, if DD-WRT has issues with a V1, is OpenWRT still good for the WNDR3700v1? |

Unless it is a really great deal, I'm waiting for a 802.11ac router...
I Just kidding...Anyhow, I think it's a shame that Netgear stopped fixing & updating the wndr3700v1/2 firmware.. |

Considering v3 is a different hardware base I'm not shocked they tuned it down, but to completely tune *out* maintenance on v1/v2 is just stupid IMHO. For those of us with v3 there is not current option for alternate firmware that I can remotely rely on. (at least none that I know of, by all means chime in with suggestions or a custom WRT port, preferably with lotsa goodies!)
I literally had to rearange my home network due to the inexplicable (and borderline-sinfull) lack of ability to simply turn OFF nat on the WAN port of a 3700v3 (dunno about v1/v2). Imagine the horror of using a Wireless router as, wait for it.... a *router* rather than a NAT'ed gateway. What was I thinking. Silly rabbit... I've NOT experienced the connectivity issued you all have (thank God), but the feature set on their firmware has honestly left me speechless sometimes. |

That's disappointing - I have a V1.

I have a V1 and used DD-WRT for two weeks and it worked like never before, so, the V1 should work with DD-WRT without any problems.
The reason I switched to openWRT is the fact that I wanted to install BT-Transmission which would not work on DD-WRT. |

I just wanted to plug it in and have it work for what I paid for it. Having to install third party FW is a PITA that I just should not have to deal with. It should just work!

The good thing for me is that I now can use the router as more than that and can use it for stuff that I usually left my computer on 24/7. This saves me quite some cash. That is just getting lucky in the process of course, not a good feature due to Netgear.... |

I also joined the "ranks" of those who are abandoning the 3700. My WNDR3700v1 has been reliable for since I have purchased it. However with Netgear's NTP mix-up, it is now not reliable. Just can not rely on Netgear anymore. Scheduling does not work. Ow my schedule wireless radio "shutdowns" disables wireless. I'm "peeved" that I would need to do a full "hard reset" every time a "schedule" fails.
I'll be welcoming an ASUS RT-N66U any day now. Maybe I will experience a dual-band router that works for more than 1 week at a time. |
