Exclamation wg111v2 Unique installation problem.

I've read through all WG111v2 installation threads and it seems that problem I'm having with it is unique. Everything installs fine until the point where it asks me to insert the adapter--at this point the installation procedure abruptly stops. I click next and then nothing happens, the NETGEAR setup.exe sits in the menu bar at the bottom of the screen and the installation ceases to continue. I followed the instructions by waiting to install the drivers before the hardware... but to no avail, this same error occurs. I'm running XP on SP2. Any help would be appreciated!

This is not such a unique problem, I think. I also cannot install my WG111v2 adapter. I have tried on both my older desktop (P III, Windows XP SP2) as well as my laptop (P III, Win XP SP2) and in both cases the install hung up at the insert adapter stage. With persistence, I finally got the software installed but the adapter would not connect to my network. Subsequent re-boots of the these computers consistently result in "USB adapter not recognized" errors. I have uninstalled the software, reinstalled with different driver versions downloaded from Netgear's website, and everything results in the same non functioning adapter. I think my adapter is the problem but have yet to contact tech support.

Hi,

I have the same problems with my wg111v3, and I did the same things trying to fix it. I just opened a case with netgear support.

I wonder if the problem could be related to USB chipsets? 1 of my 3 computers correctly detects the adapter. The other 2 just sit on an Unknown Device.

I had this problem today (19th October) although I have had the adapter for 8-9 months and it has been working (generally with the usual spurious disconnections).
I thought it was the adapter as there was no life of any kind. I tried the adapter on my Acer laptop (whos inbuilt wireless works perfectly every time) and it installed and worked fine so back to my PC.
I ended up using the XP system restore to 2 days ago and it now works again ?!?*%#^&_&%@?

I always get the same error with WG111v2.
I usually install drivers 2.0 at first. Then i update to 3.4.
This is a well known problem since version 3.2, and is still present in 3.4.
It's time that netgear fix this stupid annoyance.

Question Re: wg111v2 Unique installation problem.

I have the same problem with WG111v3 purchased 4 days ago. All worked at first but i now get usb device unrecognised. i have tried restoring back to 2q weeks ago, but still get the same error. my wifi laptop does read the adapter.
Netgear tech support say it is a problem with my pc although the usb ports work prefectly for my printer and speakers?

Has anyone found a solution for this issue?

I just re-installed my Vista x64 and it used to work fine with the wg111v2 but now when I install the driver the setup minimized in the task bar when I'm asked to insert the wireless adapter and nothing happen....

Looking at the number of people with issues, there is got to be a solution, work around out there?

Thanks.

Default Re: wg111v2 Unique installation problem.

I've just changed my ISP to Virgin. Prior to the change, I checked that I would be getting a NetGear DB834g router. Since I would need wireless adapters, I checked this site and decided that the WG111 would suit my needs. I therefore ordered two of them (from Digidave) and received them today.
The system I used for a trial installation before my new connection was activated was running XP PRO 32 to SP3; I was able to install and establish a connection to the router with this system. I subsequently installed XP 64 on this system, but was entirely unable to install the WG111: Windows recognised the device, but the drivers were shown as incorrect. I installed the device on another XP32 system and it went in without difficulty.
It seems that the specifications given for the WG111 on your site (which specify XP64) are incorrect and that I have bought devices that are no good to me, since I am in the process of upgrading all my systems to XP 64.

Can you offer any explanation or solution, please?

I just got the same issue: the install stops right after I plug my adaptor in.

The adaptor had been working well with since 2007 when I bought my desktop Dell XPS210. It has windows vista of home premium, 32-bits. Two days before, I reintalled my computor back to factory settings. Everything else works fine except that my wg111v2 adaptor does not work any more. Before this reinstallation, this adaptor can be installed automatically by my computor. After the reinstallation, upon I plug the adaptor in, the feed back is "windows was unable to intall your Cohiba 3887 rev0".

This wg111v2 adator still works well on my another XPS210. This may confirms that the published drivers wg111v2 3.2-4 are not well compatible with vista .

Could netgear guys solve this two-years old issue ?

Apparently not even after 5 years, as I am having the same issue now.
Works fine on 2 other PC's that I used the CD to install (cannot find CD since we moved), but wont on a Dell XP SP3. Downloaded this:
http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/713

When I insert (as prompted) and hit next....nothing! Then, "new hardware found" window opens.
YES, I've already run CCleaner, removed and re-downloaded setup. and tried ALL 8 of the USB slots.

Also tried "device manager" "update driver" and get "hardware not installed b/c windows cannot find the software"
