Another thing, the software open several ports (MicroSan 20001 UDP, UPnP Framework UDP 1900 Subnet and Web 80 TCP) are all 3 necesary, I only have one computer (winXP) internet connects to a router and from there the computer and the SC101,

Only 20001 UDP is opened by the SCM S/W.

with IDE HD, it will hard to make choices now day. IDE HD are still available but getting very short handed..

Indeed! I got rid if my sc101 long time ago. I have still good collection of IDE that was used with I had 2 of 80GB HD with sc101

What do you have? Is it the WD400 SATA? All the SATA do not work with it. You can check the link below to see it's limitations:

SC101T uses SATA
