Using NTV550 with NAS storage

I recently bought an IOMega IX4-200d NAS device to use with my three NTV550s. I've got all of my files transferred to the NAS, but I am unable to configure the NTV550's to read the network drive X: Movies under the NAS. It does not show as a configurable drive in DEW, but when I click 'Add Folder', it shows the drive number, but when i click on it, it says "device driver is not shareable". My NAS is not password protected. I know you are able to use the NTV550 with an NAS, so any advice would be much appreciated!

Nevermind, I am a complete Du'mas! All I had to do was go into the settings in the Neo, and select my NAS folder as a media source. Didn't even need to use my PC, although the network drives weren't showing in the Neo software there, which i thought was weird. That's how i configured my usb hard drives initially, so i figured i could do the same thing with the NAS...

Could you just go over how you got your NAS folder to connect? I've tried adding the folder as a mapped network drive and by the ip address and neither works. I'm about to throw this thing in the river! All my files are on the NAS drive and all this thing sees is fiolders on the local C drive of my computer...

I even spent over two hours on the phone with NetGear support and he couldnt figure it out either. In the end he just said this product is no longer in production so he couldn't help me...

Please help!

The first principle is that you connect the NAS to the NTV directly. What you don't do is map the NAS folder drive to a drive letter on your PC and then attempt to share the mapped drive - that just doesn't work. The DEW (windows) software that came with the NTV is not meant for NAS folders, so don't bother with that either.

The easiest way is to use your web browser to configure the NTV (by entering its IP address into your browser address bar). There are configuration screens for network shares there.

You can alternatively use the NTV on-screen menus to add network shares. However entering the information from the remote is awkward.

If you need more help, maybe you can give us some more information about your NAS.

Why not let the NTV find everything on your network for you?

From the Main Menu, select Settings, then Media Locations. Then Select Media Sources. On the lower right of screen you will see a note to press a button on the remote to search for media locations on your network.

Once that is done, use the remote to scroll thru everything on your network. Use the remote to put a check box by whatever network device (PC, NAS, etc.) you want the NTV to pull media from. Press Return, go to the top of the screen and select Scan for Media.

After that is done - and it will take a while if you have a lot stored - you can use this screen to set a time of day for the NTV to autoscan all your selected network devices for new content. Works like a charm, and if you have named your NAS a "friendly" name, like TVShows, the NTV shows that in your media locations screen.

HI, i am french. So, excuse my language. I resume.
I have a NAS with 2 HDD on RAID1 : dlink DNS 320.
I want to buty the receptor UPNP : netgear neo tv 550.
But i've readen somewhere there was problems with multiple HDD.
Is it true ? I just want to see only one HDD, not the both.
In precedent post, i read :

I am a bit afraid. So, is it possible and easy enough to configure a NAS with raid 1in the ordrer to see only 1 HDD and not 2 or 0 ?

The NAS advertises shared folders. The NTV does not care at all about the RAID configuration, it only cares about the shared folders. You can configure the NTV to allow access to some or all of the NAS folders.

However, you do not do that configuration with DEW!

Sorry for the delayed response, only check the forums periodically anymore to see if a new firmware has been released (not holding my breath). How I got my NAS to work was to go in to the settings on the NAS itself and turn on the NFS protocol, which is a Linux-based protocol, as I believe the NTV550 itself is Linux-based. Then I went into the NTV550 settings on the player itself, and went to Select Media Source, and checked the box for the folder on the NAS I wanted displayed. The NFS output will show on the NTV550 as "mntpool" and whatever your folder is titled as on the NAS. Only check that "mntpool" option, and it should sync up your NAS and the player once you perform a "scan for media". It will scan only the "mntpool" media sources you have selected. Hope that helps. Mine works flawlessly now, love it!
