Default Minimum bandwidth for voip phone

I have purchased a voip service recently. Unfortunately, it did not work at all. When I asked my provider, he said, i needed more bandwidth for voip service. Let me know what is the minimum bandwidth required for a voip phone service.

Some providers lock block specific services unless you upgrade your package.

When I recently changed to a new phone I specifically asked for Skype to be enabled on mine as the default was for it to be blocked. Had they not done so I was prepared to go elsewhere.

My magicJack Plus, plugged into my switch with 6 other devices, seems to require about 200Kb when making or taking calls. That's abut 1% of my bandwidth. The switch goes to the router; the router goes to the modem.

UK must have more tough and US

Never heard in US that blocks skype. Only common to see the residential pkg and Business pkg will hinder the ports like 80,21

UK mobile services are a major rip-off compared to the USA.

With my land line package I can call any normal number in the USA for free, this includes mobile phones.

Whilst I can call any 'normal' landline number for free in the UK, but it costs me 12.77p per min during the day and 7.66p per min during the evening. If I call a freephone (toll-free) number on my mobile I get charged for it.

This is a question you should ask the manufacturer of your VoiP phone, it will vary from one device to another - for example Skype says a minimum of 30 kb/sec (voice only) and magicJack says 128kb/sec.

I've used both, and have logged approximately 100kb/sec when using a magicJack+ which provides consistently better audio quality and fewer dropped calls than Skype.
