NetGear USB adapter issue with Open Security

Hi, I am using a net gear N150 Usb wifi adapter with a linksys AP-router. If I use open security in the router, and use the netgear driver utility to connect to the Network, then WLan API is not behaving properly. My OS is Win XP sp3 32bit. WlanQueryInterface is always returning state as 'authenticating'. But if i use the OS utility to connect to network, WlanQueryInterface returns state as 'connected' as i expect it to do. Any pointers on this is appreciated.
