Default Bad sound quality

I have PTV1000 paired with Asus U30JC laptop. Connection to my 46" TV works fine after the critical update and firmware update.

Video is excellent. My problem is with the sound quality. It sounds as if you cut out the bass, making the sound out of TV like it's coming out from a tin can. It makes watching movies unbearable. Using an HDMI cable directly from the laptop to TV doesn't have this problem. Is there some software sound setup I can tweak with for PTV1000?

What bugs me is I could not find any thread discussing this. How can I be the only one? The difference in sound quality from TV is so obvious

Please help!

After looking for a software fix and finding none, I tried recycling the power to PTV1000 box. That improved the sound significantly.

However, watching Netflix video for about 3 minutes caused the laptop's wifi to disconnect. Don't know if upgrading to a 802.11N router will solve this problem. Wireless streaming from Netflix through wired-HDMI never had this disconnect problem. Arrrgh....

Hi,

I have the same problem, almost no bass while using my PTV1000.
I tried :
- The HDMI connexion between the PTV1000 and the TV
- The cable connexion between the PTV1000 and my stereo

Except that it works really good. It's a pity to have this absence of bass.
Have you found a solution? (Driver, softwares...?).
What do you mean by "recycling the power to PTV1000 box"?

Best Regards

Question Re: Bad sound quality

Hi,

Does anyone know how to resolve this problem?

Do I have to use an audio receiver to decode 5.1 surround?

My assumption is that since WiDi is capable to transfer 5.1 and my TV has an optical audio output, would it be fixed by connecting speakers through an audio receiver?

Thanks.

I have the same problem. No low frequencies.. music/movies sound like a tin can.

I have the PTV2000 connected to my TV and receiver via an HDMI cable. When I unplug the PTV2000 and connect the same HDMI cable to my laptop, I have full range sound.

I've read around the forums and saw some comments regarding updates to the intel drivers and powering on and off the PTV2000. Neither have done anything to help.

I don't think it is too late for me to return however..

I'm using the PTV2000 with a Lenovo Y570 and have a similar problem. Sound worked fine for some months, now changes character, pops, and sometimes drops out completely. This could be a result of driver or firmware updates, but I can't be certain. I know it's the PTV because other sources feeding the receiver do not have this problem. I sure hope the Netgear people choose to address this one day.
