Firmware: v2.1.2-67R
From the help file on the FVG318 v IP Address Type: Select Reserved (DHCP Client) to direct the router to reserve the IP address for allocation by the DHCP server. Select Fixed (Set on PC) if the IP address is statically assigned on the computer itself. However - I cannot find the option to select Fixed in the pull down menu. Does anyone else have this problem? Is it an issue with the firmware? I have raised an online submission with Netgear, but it has been elevated to to L3 for response - so who knows how long that may take. Thanks in Advance. |

There should be 2 options on the router
1. Reserved i.e addresses in the subnet pool, reserved by the DHCP for issuing 2. Fixed i.e. separated from the pool for specific machines, will not be distributed by DHCP. Netgear have acknowledged that this is the case - trying to workout itf it is missing for everyone in the latest firmware or if my install is corrupt. |

This problem still exists today. Bought this FVG318 from Best Buy in December 2011.
As a matter of fact, you can use Netgear's interface to see the problem yourself: http://interface.netgear-forum.com/FVG318/edit_ip.htm |

My FVS318G is running 3.0.8-12 and has both options for Reserved and Fixed, though neither seems to work at keeping the router from giving the IP address out to other computers. I frequently boot up a computer that has either fixed (the default) or reserved, just for the computer to find out that another computer on the network already had the IP address. I go into the LAN Groups page, and sure enough there is another entry marked as unknown with the same IP address. When I then try to remove the entry for the other computer, I get the message "Automatically detected Known devices and Pc's Cannot be deleted." If I edit the duplicate entry to give it another IP address, it simply creates another entry with the new IP for that unknown system, but keeps the one with the reserved IP for the known system. I seem to have to try to find the system with the offending Mac address and force it to another IP. Am I the only one having issues with the DHCP IP management not working on the FVS318G?

Set the Reserved IP outside of the DHCP range.
i.e 10.20.30.0/24 10.20.30.1 Router 10.20.30.100-10.20.30.200 DHCP Range 10.20.30.55 Reserved IP
