Default No connectivity

My router will not let me set my laptop up for wireless connection. I sent Neatgear support a query about the problem. I did receive a response but it was not helpful. I logged onto www.routerlogin.net and tried to resolve my problem. Each time I filled in the required info it bounced back to me due to my passphrase not being accepted. I gave up and quit.

The message I receive for my wireless connection reads 'little or no connectivity'. We were able to utilize the wireless connection until about 4 months ago.

We are on cable hi speed internet, Windows XP Service Pack 3. HP computers.

I greatly need assistance but some that I can easily follow. I am internet savvy but not technically inclined. I am also an 80 yr old female.

Regards, bjh1225

To be honest , getting local tech would be an a better choice been issues with wireless can be some easy and not.

Did you set up the router in the first place? If so you could ‘factory reset’ the router and repeat the setup process.

The URL www.routerlogin.net is the router itself (not an Internet based remote web page). If you can’t login to the router and don’t know the user password, then the only option left is to factory reset the router to defaults (user = admin, password = password) and set up the router again. You might like to try those defaults first though if you have not done so.

Andy, Yes, we did set up the router when we bought it. It worked AOK until about 4 months ago. My primary home network location is on my desktop. We set up a 'home group' which includes this HP computer and 2 laptops (one an HP and the other is a Toshiba).

I have had 3 exchanges with Netgear's support people. I followed the instructions that were sent to me but none of them got the connectivity issue resolved. They only respond one time a day and you cannot 'chat' with the tech. I did do a 'factory reset' which did not resolve the problem. I will try to resolve the problem another couple of days then I am going to toss this Netgear router and buy a different brand of router.

Thank you for your response, bjh1225

Having three router does the same means likely some setup issue still.

Suggest get hold of local tech to have look at it .

Thank you for the response. I got out my other desktop last night. I am going to see if I can use it to get the Netgear router to set up the computers. It may be there is something wrong internally with the desktop I have been using.
It has one 'unknown devise' for which it shows there is no driver for it'. Strange because it is the original HP factory installation.

It is ACPI\AWY000I\2&DABA3FF&0. It shows that it is MS compliant but that is the only thing I can find on that devise. Seems strange that there is no driver for it.

THANKS to ALL who posted responses.

Remember that following a factory reset you need to use an Ethernet cable to communicate with it (not wireless), until you have finished setting up again. Take care not to confuse the different passwords, one for accessing the router settings (admin / password) and one for the wireless encryption (just a passphrase).

You should sort out that ACPI problem, but in the Device Manager (via the Control Panel, System), do you see working network devices for the wireless and wired (Ethernet) devices?

You have not have correct driver installed if "unknown device" you referring is from the device manager of the computer .
