No trace of the WN111v2 - just the uncomforting: "Coming Soon. Please continue to check back for updates."
Bummer

Ziped the driver files from my old installation in case anyone is missing the driver. Tip of the day if you like me upgraded from Win 7 to Win 8 is too look in program files under the Windows.old directory.

Good luck!

Talking Re: WN111v2 and Windows 8

It Works Fine!!!
I dunno where it went right, but I installed the software until it would not find the USB device. Then I tried to install the software in Win 7 Compatibility Mode that didn't work either. So after reading this forum I simply plug in the USB device, looked in the Network and Sharing area and saw it was already there. Right-click it, hit Connect and Bang! It works fine!

Lightbulb Re: Netgear WN111v2 wireless dongle and Windows 8 / 8.1

I was having the exact same problem on a new install of Windows 8.1 Pro.
Luckily I have now found the solution.
(Leave the USB dongle disconnected)
1. Allow windows update to run fully.
2. restart the computer (automatic via windows update)
3. allow the second run of windows updates
4. restart the computer again (automatic via windows update)
5. go to desktop, connect the WN111 v2 USB wireless dongle, allow software to automatically install. (restart may or may not be required)
6. Your dongle will now function, visit networks via the charms menu (top right corner with mouse then swipe down) input your connection key and you are now online.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL NETGEAR'S OWN SOFTWARE ON WINDOWS 8.1.... THIS WILL ONLY CAUSE A CONFLICT AND THE DONGLE WILL NOT OPERATE!!!

I have Windows 8.1 and a Netgear wireless router. Connecting with a WN111v2 usb adapter.
I get it to recognize all the local wireless routers in the building and when I select my router it asks for the password and when I hit return it says cannot connect to the internet. I have typed the pass in a hundred times but it still wont recognize it. All the other computers on the network work but this new one won't work. Why isnt it taking the password?

Change wireless encryption type

ex. WPA2 --> WPA + WPA2
