Default WNDR3400 - Severe decrease in Wifi speed

Greetings,

I own a N600 Wireless Dual Band Router WNDR3400, which is connected to an Arris modem (Comcast).

My service package with Comcast is 50mb download, 8 upload. If I connect my computer directly to the modem or to the router I receive the 50/8 minimally, often hitting around 54. However, the moment I wirelessly connect to my router, at best I receive 13/6.

I've power cycled the modem, 30/30/30 reset the modem, downloaded the most recent firmware, disabled the 5GHz channel, changed my 2.4GHz to channel 11, and have made various other small changes suggested throughout the internet, none of which have fixed the issue. I've tested the speed on 3 various laptops, and all have received the same crappy speeds with wireless but the full speed when plugged in directly.

So, here I am hoping that someone can help me fix this issue. Help?

Each laptop is connected to the 2.4GHz and is getting between 10-13 Mbps download.

I means the wireless connectivity Mbps value not the throughput of the download speed.

Usually wireless icon will shows what is connected at .... 54Mbps, 130mbps, etc.

When I hover over the Internet icon it simply says, "Internet Access" beneath the broadcast name.

If I click into it and hover over the connection it says:
Name: Birdledge
Signal Stength: Excellent
Security Type: WPA2-PSK
Radio Type: 802.11n
SSID: Birdledge

If I click into the Wireless Network Connect Status it says:
IPv4 Connectivity: Internet
IPv6 Connectivity: No Internet Access
Media State: Enabled
SSID: Birdledge
Duration: 06:22:41
Speed: 72.0 Mbps

If WiFi device is getting 72Mbps then router is using "neighbor friendly" mode which prevent from conflicting with surrounding WiFi around you

You can try use too like below and see if you can choose best channel -1,6,11 of three ONLY.

Try disabling WMM support under QoS to see if that helps. However, your wireless adapter running at 72Mpbs is the issue because you really only get half that speed (or less) in the real world. You need to get that connection rate to 150-300Mbps.

I've used Metageek to choose 11, which is what I'm currently running. Looking at channels 1, 6, or 11, it's still the best score. By disabling WMM my connection dropped to as low as 2Mbps.

How do I improve my connection rate to 150-300Mbps?

WMM is required to to have 300Mbps connectivity

Other factor is wifi adapter driver needs to me updates as well. Some WiFi adapter model is known to connect at 72Mbps as well

Do you see quite of SSID around you?

For a quick test, disable all security on the router and connect to your SSID with no security. This will tell you what your speed is capable of. What is your speed now with no security.
