Please explain BRIDGE mode here...

Hi, I am having performance probs now with WGN824 and I keep running into support references to "Bridge Mode." I am using PPOE connection from router to ISP, and I have a local lan behind the router. Web pages get progressively slower over time, fixed with a power-on/poweroff...for a bit. I am using Azureues to download files. My ISP has no clue when I say please place the router in Bridge mode. Is that like in XP networking, bridge two network connections?!? Please help...
