I'm sorry if this isn't the correct board to post this on but since I bought a rangemax along with a WPN111 today, I thought I'd post about my problems here.
Basicly, its not working at all. I install the drivers from disc, shut down the computer, plug the WPN111 in, and nothing is prompted. (In the manual it says something should come up and tell me to select language etc). I click the netgear wizard installer, it comes up and for some reason, closes itself stright away. I have since then tried 3-6 times. But heres some extra notes: 1.I'm using XP (with service patch 2) 2.I've tried it with the updated drivers that I found through the internet. 3. I've had problems with these sorts of things before, specificly the Nintendo DS Wi-Fi Doogle. I never fixed that problem, but according to some reports it might be Norton that causes it. So, is it possible Norton is whats causing this not to work? 4. I've turned off firewalls and whatnot to be sure. I've selected things in the netgear WPN 111 program file so that Norton allows everything, again, just incase. 5. I have not installed RangeMax yet. I am on a norton wireless router that AOL provided me earlier this year (it looks pretty similer, just without the blue middle. I'm moving next door and despite trying, I'm not as technical as some of you are, so excuse me not knowing this or that. The main use of these two things would be, to save myself bother of contacting AOL, setup the RangeMax in this house, then take the computer next door and using the WPN111, making it wireless and able for me to use. I thank any posts that can help me before christmas. I hope the maxrange wont be as much bother.. Ta NEG |

Oops. I meant I'm currently on a net gear wireless router, not norton.
An extra note:I've tried uninstalling the WPN111 itself, then installing drivers, re-starting, plugging it in etc. All that happens is Windows sees it as an unknown device. |

One last detail comes to mind, the only time the WPN111 had any light on it is when plugging it in, it shoots a blue light and then it stays blank when connected. No other light, ever, as if its dead. Hopefully (and since it does have the hint of blue) its not.

In the Device Manager is the Netgear USB device listed and showing no problems?

With the CD in the drive, then through device manager try updating the driver for the unknown device. Do you have administrator rights when installing?

hey, i went thru this hell as well with wpn111 and a WPN824v2 router. I orginally installed from the CD...all was well there but the range was not as expected, so I downloaded new drivers and wizard, but I got WPN111 v2 drivers thinking that was the upgrade. Well, that did not work at all! So I finally found wpn111_1_1.exe which is not V2 and that worked. What was important for me was to completely uninstall the old versions and follow the instructions to a T (run install with 111 unplugged, and then reboot and plug in the adapter after reboot). The install wizard continues after the reboot - BUT IT TAKES SOME TIME. I thought it was not working and all of sudden it popped up, installed the device, and opened the connection wizard.
The range was not improved however. I wish NETGEAR had some explaination of V2...what is that? A totally different product?!! They did a good job of warnings and what not with the 824V2 vs V1 router, but there is nothing that I can find about the WPN111 not being compatible with V2 softwares....maybe an expert will post here!
