Default FVX538 firmware versions

Anyone know the meaning of Primary and Secondary numbers for firmware version shown in the System Info box of the router status page?

System Name: FVX538
Firmware Version (Primary): 2.0.0-139
Firmware Version (Secondary): 1.6.50

they are just that, the primary and secondary firmware (can theoretically be switched at boot time via serial cable). but both your firmwares are old

and Netgear "tech support" is totally clueless about what they are all about.

Their explanation is "just to show you what firmware you used to be running before you upgraded" :-(

well from their point of view that is correct., because the serial interface is not beeing supported at all... its just that you can tell the router which firmware to boot from in the serial console

Then they should probably remove the following line from the spec sheet:

"Serial Port: One console port for command line interface (CLI) support"

well support != support. the device supports CLI over serial console. its just that you dont get any (telephone-)support from netgear for it. thats two completely different things.

If you do a second upgrade they will show the same firmware.

sounds like Bill Clinton's "depends on your definition of 'is'"

So I could build a product that "supports" a slew of features, say I offer
24/7 "support", and respond to all support inquiries with "sorry, we don't provide assistance with that feature" and be totally accurate? Cool.
