Default WPN111 High CPU usage

If just got a RangeMAX bundle that had a wireless router and a WPN111 USB adapter. When it works there's a noticable performance increase over standard G kit.

But, it eats CPU (70% kernel time on an AMD 64 3200+ ASUS motherboard) when downloading at 3500K/sec. Also when uploading at this pace, it works for about a minute before all transfer stops and the device has to be removed and plugged in before it'll work again.

I'm running the lastest drivers.

Anyone else seen this?

Thanks

Phil

Do you currently have the Netgear utility or WZC configured to manage your wireless connections. Also, see if you have a process called RTLwake running on your system.

I'm another Phil experiencing problems with the WPN111 USB adapter - haven't noticed the high CPU usage but I certainly have noticed the fact that my wi-fi connection keeps dropping (despite strong signal) and the only way to reconnect is to remove and plug back in the adapter.

I'm using the Netgear utility that came in the box (which still seems to be the latest version) with WPA encrytion enabled. No idea what RTLwake is, but it's certainly not running on my system.

I noticed that whenever I have to remove the adapter it's always very hot, wondered whether it could be a design fault and is simply overheating?!

Tried positioning the adapter right by the (cold) window but it still crashed, and tried it on a different PC and it STILL crashed. Sometimes it will be fine for over an hour, then it can stop working after just a few minutes. Tempted to take it back to PC World as faulty..

Any help much appreciated!

Make sure that the WZC is disabled Often times you will find that Wireless connections will drop if both the WZC and another wireless manager, in this case the Netgear Wireless manager are enabled.

WZC is definitely not enabled.

Any other suggestions before I lob the thing out the window?

I'm just using the XP wireless manager. I too have noticed it gets quite hot.

If you have high CPU usage, try using dual core. Actually, I never have high cpu usage from wireless connector.
My wpn111 was overheating and breaking connection requiring rebooting. I tried cracking the case and allowing more air to cool the chips and problem went away!!!
