Unhappy WG511 v2 and Windows 98/SE compatibility

Hello everybody,

three days ago I purchased a WG511 v2 adapter and wanted to use it on a PC which runs beautifully under Win98/SE (with all the applicable patches installed). The installation from the included CD went apparently fine (apart 2 or 3 prompts telling that a file already present in my system was more recent that the file being installed from the CD and asking if I wanted to overwrite or to keep them), but after plugging the card into the PCMCIA socket, the system got frozen, and eventually the infamous "blue screen" showed up... I tried restarting the system without the WG511 inserted, and everything went smooth: I plug the card in, the system freezes, not immediately, but after just a few seconds...
Please don't tell me to install XP or the like, if it were feasible I would have done it already. I purchased the WG511 v2 because, among the operating systems listed under "System requirements", Windows 98/SE is the very first one, so I expected it to work just fine. I hope that the claim of Win98/SE compatibility is not a fake! To give you a more complete information, when I plug in a 2-port USB adapter in the same PCMCIA slot, it works without problems (and at USB 2 speed!), so the problem arises only with the WG511 v2.

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

that is not always true. Some PCMCIA card will use 32Bit Card Bus . I would check with your USB if that was using same kinds. you may USB PCMCIA that uses 16bit, 32bit (not 32bit cardbus) . There is two kinds of 32bit on PCMCIA.

just 2cents.

eh.. guys there is no 16 or 32 bit usb...

the freezing problem is related to your pcmcia-controller. its most likely not compatible with the wg511v2. you can try the newest driver for wg511v2 from the web and the newest driver for your pcmcia-controller (you can find the model in your device manager).

if that diesnt work you can only bring the card back to the dealer, because it wont work then.
