Default Ethernet delay.

I have an iMac less than a year old. Once set up the router worked fine for about a month. Then, when I put the iMac to sleep, the ethernet port is active, but when I wake the Mac, the port goes off for about 30 seconds, then becomes active and works fine. It does this consistently. I've tried changing the port, but get same result. I don't want to reset up the whole thing again. Any suggestions?

Thanks. It just seems strange because the ethernet port became active right away the first 5 or 6 weeks of operation, then started the 30 second delay. Maybe I'll check with a Mac forum.
