I've got an Intel Mobo with a Broadcom 82566DC Gigabit nic and I'm getting random wake ups when plugged into the router.
I've tried everything I can possibly do as far as the integrated nic is concerned. All things done after a fresh Windows 7 x64 installation. -Using Windows' drivers: only allow magic packet to wake -using PROset drivers: only allow magic packet to wake -BIOS settings only control wake on lan for S5 power state and there are no options to only accept magic packet I would be satisfied with only having a Wake on lan ability from an S3 power state. Turning off the acceptance of magic packets does stop random wakes but I would like to be able to use this feature. I used the powercfg lastwake commands and it is definitely the nic that is waking it. I have no wake alarms currently running. I've used Wireshark to monitor the nic's mac address and all I could see were the broadcasts sent from the nic to the router to use it's IP address. I'm not sure how to get wireshark to monitor layer 2 traffic sent from the router. I've also unplugged the router from the modem and I still get random wakes. The router status is showing the link moving to a 10Mb connection when the PC is asleep even when I have the power set not to change in the nic's options. I also have wake on link set to off. Reseating the cable does nothing unless the wake on link option is on. I'm not sure what to do next. Right now I have it set to not accept magic packets and I use a spare wireless mouse to wake it but I would like the ability to use wake on lan over the internet as well. |
