Default Netgear ADSL Gigabit Modem/Routers

Hi,

Not sure if this is the place to mention this, but I've had a trusty Netgear DG834G v. 1 router for what seems like forever and it has been a rock solid router for all of this time.

However, I'm now in the market for a new router to give me WiFi 'N' but more importantly a Gigabit Switch and since I am not on cable I am limited to the ADSL routers produced by Netgear.

Can someone please explain to me why oh why Netgear only produce a Gigabit cable router (WNDR3700) and not an equivalent ADSL version?

I think here in the UK, a majority of us are on ADSL and I was really excited by the initial announcement last year of the DGND3300 as some reports suggested it was Gigabit. Sadly, not only was it only 10/100, it only appeared in the UK about two months ago!!

CES is with us again, and there is still no sign of a Netgear Gigabit N ADSL router. What gives? Linksys brought one out before Xmas and DLINK have had one out for a while so I'm wondering why Netgear have chosen not to do this?

Any info or reasons why this is the case, I'd really like to know. If Netgear are to release one soon, I'll wait. Otherwise it'll be the Linksys or DLINK to get me going.

Thanks for listening!

moving to Super-G (108 Mbps) & 802.11g (54 Mbps) Routers

personally never liked combo unit but UK do like PPPoA so for that, DG series are somewhat make sense.

Personally I will still use separate DSL modem and router.

Cheers for the responses.

I saw those routers announced at CES but thought they were all 10/100 and not gigabit. I'll check out the specs properly and see what they are.

Thanks again.

Okay, I've checked out the DGN2200 and there's no mention of Gigabit.

However, there is now on the product page the DGND3500 (which didn't seem to be there on the day that the CES announcements were made) which IS gigabit.

It looks like my next router is around the corner after all. I just hope Netgear don't take 10 months to release it in the UK!!

Thanks,

Chris
