Default Connecting a hard drive

I've spent far too much time trying to figure this out.
How do I connect a compatible hard drive to the WNDR4000? More correctly, I have it connected but it isn't visible in Explorer. I've found instructions to connect a printer the the WNDR4000 USB port but not for a hard drive. I think I have it set correctly in router settings and Genie. I've found references to Netgear USB Control Center utility but don't know if I need it for a hd.
Guidance please.

I have the same issue. I have multiple connections to the router. other computers can connect to the hard drive attached to the USB port but i cant see it at all. please help us out. I bought this router because it has this capability, pretty much a waste if i can't use it.

Dutch925,

You might check your firewall settings on the pc that cant see it. And your network settings. Maybe network discovery is off?
