Hello all,
Just registered, will be brief. I had my Netgear WNR3500 for a good couple years, probably around 4-6 years now. Been working decently, not the greatest speed, but still reasonable. Just last week the internet cut out, (does this from time to time, after repeated unplug/plug and waiting, eventually comes back). However after waiting for a while, the cable modem kicked back in (testing by directly hooking with ethernet). However the wireless router did not, or more specifically was not able to find connection from modem. It kept saying it was not able to establish a internect connection showing an orange glow for the internet symbol. After multiple tries of different things, I finally tried the option in Basic Management for changing the MAC address to "This Computer MAC address" rather than "Default MAC Address". I don't believe this is the right thing to do, since I've always had it on default. But after switching to my computer address (The only one actually ethernet connected to the router, since its in the same room). I was able to get internet. But I feel it is a little slower, and is not an appropriate fix. I believe the issue lies somewhere with the MAC Address. If someone could point me in the right direction. THank you, |

What you did is what they call mac cloning. You actually did the right thing to regain the connection back. What you can try is to lower down the MTU size of the router from 1500 to 1492. Don't forget to powercycle the router afterwards.

1. turn off the cable modem and unplug ethernet cable
2. wait for few min (20min) 3. turn on the cable modem only and do NOT plug any ethernet cable 4. wait until all the light up on cable modem 5. ONLY after all the light is up. hook up a router behind the cable modem 6. you should able to get public IP from the ISP and it will show up in the router status when you login the router. ** remove the BATTERY from the cable modem if built-in and follow from #1~ been cable modem likely MTU may not effect too much I would try above with not using PC's mac address and see.
