Question WGR614v5 - Unable to access the wireless router

I have been unable to access my router to check on settings. When I type in www.routerlogin.net or www.routerlogin.com or l92.168.1.1, I get the error message "401 Unauthorized" Access to this resource is denied; your client has not supplied the correct authentication.

Is there any way to access the router without using the factory reset button?

Thanks for any help I get.

You might try 192.168.0.1 or run IPCONFIG /ALL in a Windows Command Box to check the address. But it sounds like the router user interface login has been changed at some point -- it's usually Username : admin Password : password . Solution is reset button.

Is your router direct from Netgear? If not then some ISP modified Netgear routers use a different password, e.g. with Sky in the UK the password is Sky.

Hi I have the same router and also am not able to connect to it.

I connected my laptop to the router directly and then I started the router and then I tried to access the router with 192.168.1.1, http://www.routerlogin.net and also addresses like 192.168.0.1. I also reset the router am still not able to access the router.

The laptop is connecting to the router and the DHCP in the router is assigning a valid IP addr to the laptop but am not able to log into the router and this is really bugging me .... can anyone help me plz.

I just want to login into the router ... I have not connected my Modem to it.

Is it very necessary to connect the modem and then connect the router??

Not if you are connecting using an Ethernet cable, but for wireless it will not work. With the PC connected to the router go to a Command Prompt (Start, All programs, Accessories) and type ipconfig /all. The IP address of the Gateway in the listing should be the IP address of the router, which you can then type into a browser like Internet Explorer (recommended) e.g. http://192.168.1.1 If you see an address like 169.254.x.y for the PC then make sure you have followed this;

If the computer was automatically allocated a private IP address e.g. 192.168.1.2 and the router IP address is 192.168.1.1 then the router is clearly communicating with the PC. A possible cause for not being able to access the router configuration pages via Internet Explorer would be a software firewall on the PC, or IE security setting set too high.
