I had a netgear for 7 yrs & all was fine, I just instaled the new netgar rangemax & both of my laptops that have always been on the network now do not find my printer that is connected to my main computer upstairs. I have gone thru my router settings & changed a lot of stuff trying to unblock my printer but not sure what i'm looking for...can you help?

Assuming that the printer is connected to the computer and not directly to the router - the router will neither know nor care whether or not it exists.
Your problem is more likely to be a firewall setting on one or more of the computers involved. You haven't told us anything other than you installed a new netgear router - were there any other changes made? Any new network adapters? |

Thank you for your response....No, there are no adapters as of yet installed on any other the other computers in the house, all laptops of coarse have the wireless card installed & have not problem getting onto the internet, everything is working fine other than not being able to print from them. I just know w/ my old router, I never had an issue of locating my printer on any of my computers until I installed this new one.
no changes were made other than installing the new router. I know its got to be a setting in the router that I have not tweaked yet.... i have not changed any of the firewall settings either, again, nothing has been changed. |

Next question - what network range were you using with the old router - 192.168.?.? - and what network range does the new router use?
Whilst you may feel that it is the router - and you may be right - there's also a good probability that it's not the router, but a change in network address that the firewalls, not having been configured for the new network range, are blocking |

the old & new is using 192.168.0.1 i think,,,,but that was the ip addy i could inter into my browser to access the old router...now I have to type in www.routerlogin.net. Which brings me to viewing my settings on this new router which looks like this below.
Internet Port MAC Address 00:1E:2A:06:4B:E5 IP Address 68.52.186.227 DHCP DHCPClient IP Subnet Mask 255.255.252.0 Domain Name Server 68.87.68.162 68.87.74.162 LAN Port MAC Address 00:1E:2A:06:4B:E4 IP Address 192.168.1.1 DHCP ON IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Also I just seen that the attached devices that are turned on read this below Attached Devices # IP Address Device Name MAC Address 1 192.168.1.2 -- 00:0c:f1:73:a3:79 2 192.168.1.6 DONNABOND-PC 00:1a:73:b5:6a:ff here is my LAN settings LAN IP Setup LAN TCP/IP Setup IP Address . . . 192.161.1. I really appreciate you taking your time on this

Now we're getting somewhere - the old router used 192.168.0.x as the network range - we know that because that is what you typed in to get to the router - but - the new one uses 192.168.1.x for it's network range - we can see that from the information you provided.
There is a distinct possibility that your problem is caused by a firewall setting on the PCs - why don't you disable ALL the software firewalls temporarily and see what happens. |

i disabled the firewalls & still did not locate the printer on the network...but I did go into my mcafee & look around & did find out that everything is 192.168.1.1 but my laptop that i'm on & trying to print from which is on the net work is reading 192.168.1.6
does this mean anything? |

Hi again, I wanted to let you know that I just got it going
I recalled doing this about 7 yrs ago & never thought about trying the "add a wireless device using the USB flash drive" technique...so...all of my wireless devices are back on the network & printing away!!!!!Again, thank you for all of your valuable time today helping me....
