Hi,
Hope someone can help me with this problem. I play World Of Warcraft online and have had a lot of latency issues for about 10 days now. I have been informed by their technical dept that after a recent patch to the game there are some issues with netgear routers and modems that can be fixed by applying a firmware update. So I followed the instructions on the Netgear support pages and downloaded the latest firmware update v. 1.02.13 from Nov 2007 for my DG834GT router. I tried to upload this to my router and it wouldnt accept the file as it says it is the incorrect one for my router. I have triple checked that I downloaded the right one and that is the one for my router. I then discovered that my router is using firmware version 1.02.28, I'm no expert, but isnt that a more recent one than the one I downloaded. I have had this router since October 2007 so would asume the Nov update is newer! I had the router as part of the Sky Broadband package, dont know if thats relevent! Any ideas on how to solve this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance. |

The router will have a Sky logo on it and a Sky label underneath. The only way to update the firmware on this is by carefully using the Netgear Recovery Utility. Full instructions can be found in a tutorial on www.skyuser.co.uk . Problems can arise with certain ethernet adapters during reflashing . Having reflashed the router note jmizoguchi's hints on rebooting the router using the revert to factory settings facility in the user interface. You will know the Sky firmware (which has defects in UPnP) is removed and the new firmware is okay when the router password changes from 'sky' to 'password'. N.B. If you are a Sky customer you will be breaking the terms of your contract by changing the firmware. Lots of people do it, but be aware that an update from Sky is alleged to be being tested. |
