Forgotten Netgear password

Probably a common problem, but it's new to me. I set up the router with a password last year and now can't remember what I chose, so I can't get on with my new laptop. Is the password I chose anywhere on my desktop? If so, how do I find it? Are they case sensitive? How many characters needed? Any help would be great.

If you are referring to the password used to access the router configuration settings then the default is admin/password, if you have changed this and forgotten it your only option is to factory reset the router.

If you are referring to the wireless key then if you log into a router either wirelessly from a PC that has access, or using an Ethernet cable, then you can see and change the wireless key in the router wireless settings.

It's the password to a WPN824 that I'm missing. Each time I open up to send email it's asking to join my local network by entering the password I've obviously forgotten (since I've tried everything I could think of). It sounds as though I need to reset.

So, I'm a novice and need assistance in what information I need to write down before I reset. ISP, etc. Where do I find this pertinent info. I remember it was a nightmare for me when I set it up and I don't want to go through THAT again.
