Question DG834GT Wireless Light Not on

Hi there,

I've had this router for a few weeks now while waiting for my phone line to be installed (today). That entire time, and for most of today, it has been fine.

This afternoon the light went off, and won't come back. I've tried the whole 20-20-20 reset, but now I just have a router that is flashing the power and the "tick" lights at me, and not responding to a cable'd connect (will pull out the power now and see what happens).

Basically, I can't connect to the Router via wireless, and prior to this reset, I could connect just fine via ethernet cable.

How do I get the wireless function (core of the product) to function again?

Thanks,

-G

Just to add, that after a short reset (10 or so seconds), the wireless light flickers briefly, then stays off.

can you connect to the router wired and enter the routers configuration-
menues?
if so check all the routers wireless-settings, if there is something important
disabled...

Load the actual firmware too.

Do not place the router near/on hot or small-closed environment!
Some days ago, I solved a problem, were the router was placed on top
of a hot cable-modem...

ONLY use wired to diagnose. wireless should be your last setup.

hard reset ( see my signagure for "router reset" ,step1,3) and use wired only and try to access web interface. also check with ipconfig

start>run and type cmd
at prompt type ipconfig.

make sure IP is release to your PC. if not that one issue. also leave your router by itself with not cables, cool it down and stand up your router if do not. most these plastic housing do not remove the heat quick enough if you leave the router flat.

I tried your hard reset last night, didn't work. I am using the router now via wired and as you can see, it works fine. I searched the forums and the internet and found that there is a small sim card inside that controls the wireless functionality, could this be loose like others have said?

I am going to go try find a screwdriver that I can use to open it and check, because it may have been bumped off the desk by someone and that could explain it.

To open the case remove the little rubber pads first.

But I think I would be careful where you put the screwdriver or your fingers. The SIM wireless you refer to is actually a Broadcom mini-pci card -- it and the whole mainboard are probably highly sensitive to static. It might be worth checking that the antenna lead is not broken, though.

If the wireless unit appears to have failed and you are in the UK -- check out a car boot sale for a Sky Netgear router -- you may find one for a few and the wireless transplant is relatively simple if you take care -- though reflashing the Sky unit as a retail DG834GT is simpler.

opening the case will void the warranty

Some router do not have mini-PCI card inside . Some are on the board. I seen draft-n router are mini-PCI in side.

Make sure know about void the warranty beforexopemomg if this is still under warranty

Had it about 2 months, been sitting waiting for line installation, so will contact the supplier tomorrow and ask them if they can fix it - haven't opened it.

good move. this only public forum so take full responsibility what you hear in the thread. most are very helpful for solution but don't jump in conclusion that opening the unit might be the solution right away.

Although that could be a easy to fix if DG834GT has mini-pci card inside. For among others don't care opening by void warranty for their fixes but always nice to get replacement under warranty.
