Default WG111 & WG11V2 Speedtest

I have a SKY DG834GT router and 2 PC's both running WinXP Home.

One uses WG111v2 and the speedtest is 4.1 MB the other uses WG111 and the speedtest is 0.71.

I bought a WG111T to see if that would improve the problem and now the Status Icon is always yellow and the speedtest is 0.62.

I am about to try with the WG111v2 and see if that gives the same result as when it is on the other PC.

Any ideas as to why the massive discrepancy would be appreciated.

How do you perform this speed test?
Most speed tests are at the router itself to internet. If you're getting bad results using wireless, it's because of noise, lag, and other issues that come up from using wireless. Hard wire to the router then tell us how the speed test comes out.

speed test on wireless are useless unless you are getting good signal strength

what you need is best speed on your router WAN testing with PC with WIRED.

GLaDOS said all about many factors due changes under wireless condition. not a best way to test accurate

Thanks guys!

I am using Speedtest.com and the Maidstone point. I understand fully what you are saying it's just that I have 2 PC's using the same router with different adapters, my PC is new and should be perfect my wifes is 4 years old using the v2 adapter and goes like a rocket

Humiliating to say the least.

I have just bought another V2 adapter as I have tried that and the speed goes up to 2.1 considerably better than the WG111T but still only half of the other PC.

I'm having the same issues here.

I have a Roadrunner Turbo connection (15mb DL and 1mb UL)

I have installed the WG111v2 on one laptop and another on a desktop

Both register a 3mb DL and a 1mb UL speeds using my ISP's speedtest site. Nothing ever higher on the DL speed is the issue I'm having.

The desktop is in the same room as the Netgear wireless router too (10' away)

I have 2 laptops with internal wireless cards and one desktop thats wired directly into my Netgear wireless router and all three register at 14mb+ DL and 1mb UL speeds

Any ideas?

Cheers!

Your experience seems to confirm a widely held belief that USB isn't a very good technology (after all wasn't it originally just for mice ?).

My own experience is that PCI cards give the best reception -- and speed probably follows from that.

In my laptops I favour PCMCIA which outperforms some older built-in wireless.
