hi all, im new here as i have just came across an error trying to sign into windows live messenger. and it says that it could be an error relating to my router needing its " firmware" updating???? any suggestions on how i may do this please im running wndows vista home if that helps thanks for your time ... john

oh and forgot to mention that msn messenger works fine on the desktop computer but fails on the laptop. if that helps

If MSN works fine on the desktop, but not on the laptop chances are the problem is on the laptop - check your firewall settings (on the laptop)

That's a bit of a generalised lazy way of passing the buck. I would do as Fordem suggests and investigate the problem laptop further before risking a router firmware upgrade that might not solve the problem.
You could log into the router to see what firmware version is installed and the follow the 'Downloads' button at the top of the forum to see if there is a newer version. When you click on the new version you should see a list of fixes. I would check for you but you don't say which router you own?
