Angry Re: Windows Media Center and the SC101

hallo together

... I'm trying since Days to install my SC101
with two 250GB Samsung Disk Drives.
I arrive to do a single NONE mirrored partition without any problems.

The second IP adresse / Disk is never shown (one is visible).
Mirroring wont'work al all.
It works neither from a W2K nor from the XP home PC!
The LAN is wired.

I Arrive to do a single NONE mirrored partition.

A glance in the Windows Diskmanager doesn't help as well.

The Upgrade to the newest March Firmware and MediaCenter
worked perfektly.

I don't now see a reproducable way to get it working !!!
... and I expect it to run safely ...

This is my problem with the sc101 and MCE:

It works just fine to install and to connect the libraries on the SC101 to "my Music" or "movies". But I have to open up Windows Explorer to activate the SC101 before I run MCE.
So it seems like MCE doesn't activate the SC101. That is; after putting my HTPC in stand-by and then restart I will have no connection to the SC101 if I don't quit MCE and start Explorer and then go back to MC.

Is there a way to solve this?

I installed SC101 with no problems on my new ACER laptop running Windows media center in Jan 2007. This was the version that came on the install disk. Cant remember what version. All was well until i updated firmware and install software on my 2 main computers. No problems with theses but when i updated my laptop with just the SC101 software the laptop would not even get to open the desktop. The hard drive just spins forever. I had to boot in to safe mode and remove all traces of the update. I asked Netgear support for some help but they said "SC101 software will not run on windows media center full stop". So is there a fix that Netgear don't know about. Any help please.

sc101 worked fine for awhile. after a house move it was no longer seen by my system. i reloaded the software and updates. now my dell inspirion 6000 laptop has froozen with a blue sceen instructing me to uninstall the drivers for these new hard drives, then restart the computer. how do i save this data and restart this laptop. it respones to no commands.
after reading all the posts about this product one wonders why it was released at all. this creates more problems than it solves. if iam able to save the two years worth of data and photos on this computer i will never buy another netgear product. can anyone help?

I did not have any trouble installing last month, but now whenever I turn the SC101 on, it completely dominates my computer resources for up to an hour before, red light blinking the entire time. Have no idea why, here on the forum trying to find a similar experience.

Start by interpreting what the lights mean here.

A blinking red light means disk activity, which is considered normal, so you need to find out what application on your PC is accessing the storage on the SC101 - possibly your antivirus or some disk indexing feature or something along those lines

Runnin ACER Aspire Idea with Vista. Hafd bug problems installing and after getting installation going only some disks were shown and accsessing was extremely slow. Problems seemed after a lot of hours spend trying be related to the Intel VIIV software for managing media content in the network. After uninstalling that one using disks is OK. But Vista will not close down if the SC101 is running Vista freezes after closing programs an desktop. Have to kill computer with powerbutton. If the SC101 is down cosing Vista is no problems. I am also one that is more lightly to keep my SC101 if Linux drivers are made.

All,

After looking into this matter for about a year we did something different.
After contacting the Microsoft KB centre who have created a special KB to see if we could upgrde the XP MCE to work with SCSI dirves, with no result (as expected), and having a Vista upgrade on the shelf for about 6 month, we decided to go for the VIsta option.
First I upgraded the SCM software to the latest standard on my XP pro machine, which caused no problems. Than I upgraded the Laptop (acer aspire 9300) to VIsta home premium. I installed the SCM software on the machine and all is up now.

We now are able to connect to our network storage without hampering.

I don't think the SC101 will ever work with an XP MCE version, whatever the language, without doing so many tricks and other specials.

cheers

Jako
